RANCHO MIRAGE, California – Will the Philippines become the new site of Disneyland or at least become a regional hub of its animation department?
Business prospects in the country, particularly on game development and animation, will be high on the agenda during President Aquino’s meeting with top executives of Walt Disney International Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).
Aquino left yesterday for the United States to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations-US Leaders’ Summit in California, his last attendance to an ASEAN Summit as Philippine president, saying that he is excited to come back home loaded with good news to his Boss, the Filipino people.
Aquino, who is expected to arrive in California Monday morning (early Tuesday morning in Manila), is scheduled to sit down with Andy Bird, chairman of Walt Disney, and Jim Flippatos, vice president for global policy, on possible Philippine investments.
“I understand that they will be discussing the investment policies and climate in the creative sector, particularly game development and animation,” Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Cuisia Jr. said in an interview here.
“I think the President will also welcome an exchange of ideas how the Philippine government can continue to support and develop the industry. So we’re looking also how can we work together with Walt Disney in that particular regard,” Cuisia added.
