KAPAMILYA actor Piolo Pascual has admitted that he was just too embarrassed to ask Hollywood giant Meryl Streep for a picture with him at the sidelights of the 66th Berlin International Film Festival in Germany recently.
Fresh from the successful stint in the filmfest, Pascual recalled that he met Streep when she presented the main awards on stage with the rest of the jury members.
“Nahiya ako, hindi ako nakapagpa-picture, pinagalitan nga ako bakit hindi ako nagpa-picture. I was just embarrassed to ask and it was enough for me to just see her. Parang I wanna keep that mystery,” said Pascual, in an interview with ABS-CBN.
Pascual and other Filipino celebrities went to the annual film festival to represent the eight-hour indie film “Ang Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” which won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize.
His other companions, fellow Kapamilya actor John Lloyd Cruz, director Lav Diaz, and producer Paul Soriano, had the opportunity to pose for picture with the award-winning actress.
Streep, as she presented the award to the “Hele” group, said: “This film, this guy… he changed the molecule system in my body.”
Pascual said that doing an independent movie served as an eye-opener to him.
“We do indies also for people to realize that being a medium actor does not limit you into just doing mainstream films. I guess there are good scripts also,” he said.
Pascual stressed that the film’s quality, not the budget, prevails when he chooses a movie project.
“It’s not about the small budget or the big budget kasi it’s an expression eh. You should not limit it just because it’s an indie and you think na hindi na dapat panoorin. So for me parang it’s an opportunity for people to realize na it’s about the quality of the film,” he said.
Pascual, 39, will soon be seen in the new ABS-CBN prime time series “Written in the Stars” opposite Toni Gonzaga.
