Film and TV director Wenn Deramas’ remains were laid to rest yesterday at the Himlayang Pilipino Memorial Park in Quezon City.
Deramas (born Edwin Villenas Deramas) succumbed to cardiac arrest at 49 years old on Feb. 29 shortly after seeing doctors failed to revive his sister at the Capitol Medical Center.
Prior to the burial, a final funeral or Requiem mass was held at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater attended by the director’s family, friends, co-workers and network executives. Deramas’ sister, Merlyn Deramas Ortiz, thanked all who’ve extended their condolences to their family. Some 2000 fans were waiting for Deramas at the memorial park, according to a report on DZMM.
During the necrological service for the director held Saturday at the same venue, many of the actors who’ve worked with Deramas, led by comedy actor Vice Ganda, paid tribute by performing lighthearted and heartfelt numbers alternately. The theme that night was “Paalam Direk Wenn: Thank You for the Love and Laughter” said to represent the late director’s disposition when he was still alive.
Note that many of Deramas’ blockbuster works were in the comedy genre, including “Beauty and the Bestie,” “Sisterakas” and the “Tanging Ina” franchise. (Jojo Panaligan)
