LIPA CITY, Batangas – The Supreme Court decision clearing the way for Senator Grace Poe to run for president may boost her candidacy but the court still has a lot of explaining to do about its ruling, according to President Aquino.
Still puzzled about the circumstances surrounding Poe’s citizenship, the President called on the Supreme Court to clarify and explain its ruling on the senator’s case, especially the rules governing a person’s citizenship.
“Inaasahan ko na marami kasing mga katanungan na ‘di ba, umusbong dahil dito sa isyu tungkol kay Senator Grace. Sana iyung ating Korte Suprema dito sa kanilang desisyon ay magbibigay talaga ng – iyung todong kalinawan o paglilinaw sa sambayanan na in their role as educator as far as the law is concerned para maging klarong-klaro sa lahat ng ating mamamayan kung ano ba talaga ang mga alituntunin sa pagiging citizen or non-citizen ng ating bansa,” Aquino said in a press conference after leading the Philippine Air Force change of command ceremony in Fernando airbase.
“Gusto nating makita, maliwanagan lahat ng issues, sana magkaroon ng kumpletong tugon doon sa desisyon na ilalathala nila,” he added.
Aquino admitted he has not yet read the SC decision but raised concerns on Poe’s decision to renounce her US citizenship only after she was named chairman of the Movie Television Review and Classification Board.
He said it was the first time he learned that Poe went to a US consular official in 2011 to renounce her foreign citizenship. “Ni walang nagkwento sa akin, walang nagbalita, walang formal report noong panahon na iyon,” he added.
