Actress Sunshine Cruz is going back to school to take up AB Psychology at the Arellano University in Sampaloc, Manila.
“It’s never too late to go back to school,” said Cruz, 38, in her Instagram after she posted an education module from the same university.
Cruz, wife of actor Cesar Montano, goes back to school under the expanded tertiary education equivalency and accreditation program (ETEEAP) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Boy Abunda, a product of the same education program, congratulated Cruz on her efforts to finish school, during his late night show “Tonight With Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.
Abunda reflected on the importance of education as he revealed that he was also finishing his doctoral degree in social development.
The King of Talk recalled that he was not able to finish his studies at the Ateneo de Manila University due to financial difficulties after his father passed away.
Abunda then forgot all about it when he worked in show business. But 11 years later, he realized he does not have a college diploma.
Armed with his transcript of records from Ateneo, Abunda said he enrolled at the Philippine Women’s University in Manila.
He said that it was his mother’s dream for him to finish college. “Karamihan if not all of my academic units come from the Ateneo De Manila University pero technically, I graduated my college degree from the Philippine Women’s University.”
Under the ETEEAP program, the school evaluates the applicant’s working experience, Abunda said.
“I took exams, defended my undergrad thesis and got my college diploma. After that, tumuloy ako sa master’s sa PWU where I also finished and defended my thesis. My master’s is on communications. I also took seminars on international relations and public diplomacy.”
After he earned his master’s degree, Abunda, 55, enrolled for a doctoral degree on social development.
“I just finished four hours in school for the final touches of my dissertation. I will be defending my doctoral dissertation third week of May,” Abunda said.
“Malaki ang paghanga ko kay Sunshine. Sana ma-enganyo ang ibang tao na katulad ko na nakalimot na sa school na it’s never too late to go back to school anytime you want,” he said.
“I did it! You can do it! If Shine will do it, you will be able to do it,” added Abunda.
Cruz, who has three daughters, is currently seen in the hit Kapamilya prime time teleserye “Dolce Amore” starring Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano.
