Veteran former three-division world champion Shane Mosley is not about ready to hang up his gloves.
The 44-year-old Mosley yesterday announced he will be fighting for the interim WBA welterweight crown against unknown David Avanesyan of Russia on may 28 in Glendale, Arizona.
Mosley, who has won only thrice in his last eight bouts, will promote the card via his outfit Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions.
Mosley (49-9-1, 41 knockouts) has won his last two fights, scoring a 6th round stoppage over old nemesis Ricardo Mayorga before knocking out Venezuelan Patrick Lopez in the 10th canto. Both fights happened last year.
“I know he’s tough and works hard. But he has to be in the best shape he could be in because I’m definitely sharp right now,” said Mosley.
For this fight, Mosley will have Panamanian icon Roberto Duran as his new trainer.
“We have a lot of same things we do. He was an inside fighter and boxes well. I am the same waytoo. I’m excited to go to Panama,” said Mosley.
Mosley held titles in the lightweight, welterweight and superwelterweight divisions in his 23-year boxing career. (Dennis Principe)
