The Philippine National Police yesterday welcomed the decision of the Ombudsman to file charges against former PNP chief Director General Alan L.M. Purisima and former PNP Special Action Force commander Director Getulio P. Napeñas in connection with the Mamasapano tragedy last year.
According to the PNP, it is a step towards attaining justice for the 44 police commandos who were killed in the incident.
But Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, PNP spokesman, said that there is a missing part in the legal action against the two former police generals since there is still no concrete legal action against those responsible for the death of the SAF commandos.
“On the part of the PNP, the justice that we seek is to punish those who are really responsible for the death of the SAF 44 heroes,” said Mayor.
Members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front allegedly killed the SAF 44.
The case involving Purisima and Napeñas, according to Mayor, involves command responsibility.
