THE cities of Manila and Pasay join forces in throwing the biggest street party this summer as Aliwan Fiesta unfolds on April 14-16, under the auspices of Manila Broadcasting Company, Star City, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the cities of Manila and Pasay.
Kicking off the festivities along Sotto Street in front of the Aliw Theatre will be the Shoppers Bazaar, which features regional products from various parts of the country. At 7 p.m., the Aliwan Music Jam will be held, with DJ Tom Taus leading off an EDM set to be followed by live acts including Luke Mejares, Acel of Moonstar 88, Banda ni Kleggy and Calla Lily, plus popular radio personalities Tanya Chinita and Papa Jack.
Lovely young ladies from various regions of the country will vie for the title of Festival Queen and a cash prize of R100,000 as the Reyna ng Aliwan pageant takes to the stage at 7 p.m. on April 15. Hosted by 2014 Miss Earth and former Reyna ng Aliwan Jamie Herrell and MBC’s Dennis Antenor, Jr., the show will also feature musical numbers by Paolo Valenciano and Alex Medina.
The Grand Parade showcasing different festivals from north to south of the archipelago then takes place on Saturday, April 16, beginning at Quirino Grandstand at 4 p.m., and winding up at the Star City complex, where the formal awarding ceremonies will take place at 9 p.m. A cool one million pesos await the winner of the Streetdance Competition, while the champion in the Float Design category will take home P500,000. Program hosts Chris Tsuper and Nicole Hyala of 90.7 Love Radio.
