MULING makikipag-compete ang award-winning film director na si Brillante Mendoza sa nalalapit na Cannes International Film Festival in France.
Ang kanyang bagong obra na may titulong “Ma Rosa” ay isa sa napiling 20 official entries sa naturang film festival.
Bida sa pelikulang “Ma Rosa” ay sina Jaclyn Jose, Andi Eigenmann, Felix Roco at Julio Diaz.
Ito ang ikatlong pagkakataong magku-compete si Mendoza para sa Palme d’Or, ang highest and most prestigious award sa Cannes.
Noong 2007 unang nakasali sa Cannes si Mendoza with his film Foster Child na pinalabas sa Directors’ Fortnight section.
The following year, sa main competition na siya nakasali with his film “Serbis” na pinagbidahan ni Coco Martin.
Noong 2009 ay muli siyang lumaban sa Cannes with “Kinatay” at napanalunan niya ang Best Director award.
Last year ay na-feature sa Un Certain Regard section ng Cannes ang kanyang pelikulang “Yolanda” kung saan bida si Nora Aunor.
Sa May 11 hanggang 22 tatakbo ang festival at ito ang ibang mga pelikulang kasama sa main competition: “The Last Face” by American actor-director Sean Penn, starring Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem; “Julieta” by Pedro Almodovar; “Loving” by Jeff Nichols; “It’s Only the End of the World” by French Canadian Xavier Dolan, starring Marion Cotillard, Vincent Cassel and Lea Seydoux; “Paterson” by Jim Jarmusch, starring Adam Driver; “Toni Erdmann” by German director and producer Maren Ade; “Aquarius” by Brazilian director Kleber Mendonca Filho; “I, Daniel Blake” by British director and Cannes favorite Ken Loach; “American Honey” by Andrea Arnold, starring Shia LaBeouf; “Personal Shopper” by France’s Olivier Assayas, starring Kristen Stewart; “Handmaid” by South Korean director Park Chan-Wook; “Slack Bay” (“Ma Loute”) by French director Bruno Dumont, starring Juliette Binoche, Fabrice Luchini and Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi; “Graduation”by Cristian Mungiu; “La fille inconnue” (The Unknown Girl) by Belgium’s Dardenne brothers; “Elle” by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven starring Isabelle Huppert; “Sieranevada” by Romanian director Cristi Puiu; “The Neon Demon” by Denmark’s Nicolas Winding Refn; “Mal de pierres” (Stone Sickness) by French director Nicole Garcia starring Marion Cotillard; “Rester Vertical” (“Stay Upright”) by French director Alain Guiraudie.
