A former Binibining Pilipinas candidate who appeared in action films in the 1980s will represent the Philippines at the Mrs. Universe 2016 beauty contest to be held in China later this year.
Jenny Guinto, 50, of Cavite City, said that she is now preparing for the beauty pageant for successful married women scheduled from August 26 to September 26.
“Workout and diet are part of my preparations for the contest. I also attend workshops on modeling and make-up,” said Guinto, also a boutique owner, during a meet-and-greet at Alex III Restaurant in Quezon City recently.
Angela Janine, youngest child of the beauty queen, said that she helps her mother prepare for the pageant.
“I always encourage her to focus on her preparations for the contest. I know she’ll make it, I really trust my mom.
Almost everyday, we rehearse for the question-and-answer portion,” Angela said.
Guinto was chosen by Gareth Blanco, franchise holder for Mrs. Universe Philippines contest, from several candidates who applied for the country’s representative to the pageant.
During the preliminary round of the contest in China, Guinto is expected to take part in a forum on domestic violence.
For the final round, the candidates will compete in three rounds – sports, national costume, and evening gown.
When Guinto was still active in show business, her screen name then was Jenny Varga. She was a favorite leading lady of action stars. Guinto appeared in more than 50 films.
This is not the first time that Guinto would be competing in a beauty pageant.
In her younger days, she competed in the 1983 Binibining Pilipinas beauty pageant. Later she joined the Miss Philippine Pacific contest and won fourth runner-up.
Following her stint in the movies, Guinto went to Tokyo, Japan where she taught English for pre-school and high school students. She has three children.
After her stint in China, Guinto said that she wants to make a comeback in show business. “She is now considering some of the movie offers,” Blanco added.
