TALISAY CITY, Cebu – Liberal Party standard-bearer Mar Roxas dared yesterday his rival Rodrigo Duterte to prove that he has never engaged into any corruption activity following report that the tough-talking Davao City mayor has more than P200 million in his bank account.
“Mayor Digong (Duterte’s nickname), prove to the Filipino people that your hands are cleaner than your mouth,” said Roxas in a press briefing here.
“Trustworthiness is at the very core of everyone’s campaign, including Digong’s. The people are entitled to straight answers to straight questions. It is our responsibility to make sure things are clarified,” he added.
Roxas was reacting to the expose of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV that Duterte has some R211 million in his account at the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) in Pasig City which he did not declare in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth.
Trillanes added that he believes Duterte has more hidden wealth since the P211 million were all deposited just in 2014 alone.
Roxas said it is important that Duterte explain the alleged hidden wealth since one of the platforms of the Davao City mayor is to get rid of corruption.
