Adamson chalked up its fourth straight win by crushing St. Jude Catholic School, 108-40, to grab the solo lead even as Hope Christian High School stunned La Salle Greenhils in the 9th PCABL (Philippine Chinese Amateur Basketball League) FREEGO Cup held over the weekend at the Philippine Buddhacare Academy gym in Quezon City.
Exploiting their height and heft advantage, the Baby Falcons exploded for 31 points while holding the Judenites to just six points in the first quarter that set the tone for the rout.
Adamson’s 68-point victory is so far the biggest winning margin in the tournament with six Baby Falcons scoring double digits.
Forthsky Padrigao and Freego Player of the Game Gerry Abadiano led Adamson in scoring with 17 and 15 points, respectively, aside from providing the defensive hustle that saw St. Jude score only 9 points in the third quarter.
With Miguel Quiambao and Mac Jacob making clutch baskets, Hope Christian pulled off a 73-68 win over La Salle Greenhills to even its record to 2-2 in the tournament also sponsored by Smart, Jumbo Plastic Linoleum, Hapee Toothpaste, Insular Square (Cebu), and New Pioneer Auto Supply (Cebu).
In other games, reigning UAAP champion National University improved to 3-1 by downing Arellano University, 94-71, while University of the Philippines tripped Jose Rizal University, 95-87, for a 2-1 record.
Juan de Liano Gomez and Jaggi Gregorio led the Junior Maroons with 27 and 15 points, respectively.
