SAN JOSE, Antique – United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) standard-bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay said he felt “sorry” for his supposed allies who deserted him in the final days of the campaign.
“Nalunglungkot ako dun sa mga nang-iwan sakin. Kung kailan patapos na yung labanan eh nang-iwan pa,” Binay told residents here after a momentary lunch stop in his motorcade.
The local folks easily picked up the Vice President’s sarcasm though as they laughed at those who made “the wrong choice”.
“I-tape niyo ng mabuti kasi dapat marinig ito ng mga nang-iwan sakin. Nagkamali sila. Basta shineshare ko sa inyo, mananalo tayo,” Binay said.
While the opposition chieftain didn’t mention anybody in particular, his allusion to deserters is believed to be directed toward outgoing Cavite Governor Juanito Victor “Jonvic” Remulla Jr., who according to rumor has already defected to the side of Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City.
Remulla, seen as a key Binay ally in a vote-rich province, has reportedly struck a deal in teaming up with survey-frontrunner Duterte last week. However, members of the UNA camp has consistently denied having knowledge of Remulla’s change in allegiance.
But if the Vice President’s own words are any indication, it seems that the Caviteño is no longer considered part of the team. (Ellson Quismorio)
