Asserting that the May elections should not be taken lightly, President Aquino has called on the electorate not to choose a new leader based on mere popularity.
With a few days left before the national elections, the President reminded voters to consider the most qualified presidential bet or else regret their decision should an unfit leader takes a U-turn from the country’s good governance and economic growth.
“Darating na Lunes, magbo-botohan na tayo. Doon ho may mga nagsasabi: ‘Sino ba dapat iboto?’ ‘Doon tayo sa malamang mananalo’,” Aquino said during a visit to Tuguegarao, Cagayan last Monday.
“Ang dapat ho yatang tanong e: ‘Sino ang iboboto, sino ba ang dapat manalo?’ Hindi ‘‘yung popular, “‘yun na iboto natin.’ Hindi ‘yung magaling kumanta, hindi ‘yung nakakagulat. Pag may pinangako ba, alinsunod ‘non: ‘Paano mo tutuparin ang pangako mo? ‘Yun bang trabaho naiintindihan mo?’” Aquino added.
The president then took a swipe anew at tough-talking Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte who has been soaring in presidential surveys ahead of the May 9 polls.
Without naming Duterte, Aquino questioned the candidate’s capacity to occupy Malacañang, saying he may be popular but acts like bully and evades telling the truth on certain issues.
