Presidential candidate Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago yesterday frowned upon the backing of the New People’s Army (NPA) on PDP-Laban presidential bet Rodrigo Duterte.
“It appears that he is a favorite friend of Joma Sison. We all know that here in Manila, the NPA is divided into pro-Joma and the anti-Joma. So if he (Duterte) has a pro-Joma approach, that might explain why he has the support of leftist groups,” Santiago sid.
The feisty senator expressed concern that there would be violence with the backing of the NPA on Duterte, especially when Duterte loses in the elections.
“That they will go out in the streets with guns firing at people who are not with them. There is no ideology involved here,” she said.
“It’s very dangerous dahil pag hindi nakuha ng taong kamukha niyan ang kagustuhan niya, baka gagamit ng dahas,” she added.
Santiago meanwhile said she does not believe in commercial surveys. Santiago has been trailing behind in the presidential race but said that surveys are for those who have money to conduct surveys.
Currently, Duterte is leading in pre-electoral surveys.
“Ang commercial survey, hindi kapani-paniwala dahil una, ibibi-gay nilang leading ang isang kandidato pag nakatanggap sila ng mas malaking pera, ibang kandidato na ang leading kaya question lang itong mga commercial surveys kung kaya mo bayaran sila,” she said. (Mario B. Casayuran)
