Amid calls for unity talks between presidential candidates former Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and Senator Grace Poe, a political analyst claimed that the planned united front will be more effective if Roxas will be the one to give way.
Roxas on Friday called on Poe to discuss a possible alliance in order to avoid a victory from current frontrunner Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Political analyst Popoy De Vera, in an interview with DZMM’s “SRO,” said that based on survey data, Poe will more likely win if Roxas gives way, rather than Roxas winning if the senator backs out.
“Mathematically and based on survey data, mas mananalo yung kung si Mar ang mag-gigive way kay Grace Poe rather than Grace Poe giving way to Mar,” De Vera said.
The political analyst went on to cite survey data on second-choice candidates.
“Doon sa survey na ginawa, tinanong ‘yung mga supporters ng mga kandidato, kung hindi tumuloy ‘yung first choice na presidential candidate, sino and second choice niyo. Doon sa mga nagsabi na si Mar ang first choice nila, 41% sa kanila ang second choice nila si Grace,” De Vera explained.
“Pero doon sa mga pumili kay Grace na first choice nila na presidente, 23% or 24% lang ang nagsabi na si Mar ang second choice nila,” he added.
De Vera explained that about half of Roxas’ supporters are willing to jump ship to Poe if their candidate decides not to run. The same, however, is not true if it’s Poe who decides not to run.
“So, kung ang transferability ay nandodoon sa second choice, mathematically, mas mananalo si Grace Poe kung mag-gigive way si Mar,” De Vera said. (ABS-CBN NEWS)
