JUST A THOUGHT: “I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be honorable, to be compassionate. It is, after all, to matter: to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all.” – Leo C. Rosten

LOVE QUADRANGLE: It never occurred to Derek Ramsay and Shaina Magdayao that they would one day play lovers in a film.
Aside from the age difference, both were linked to actors who also previously had been an item together. Derek used to be in a relationship with Angelica Panganiban, who later hooked up with John Lloyd Cruz, who was Shaina’s ex.
Nevertheless, Derek and Shaina, costars in comedy-romance film “My Candidate,” simply downplay the obvious pairings and partings.
“We never even talk about it, except now in this presscon when you guys brought it up,” said Shaina.
The former child actress maintained that despite a prolonged kissing scene with Derek, they have no plans of changing their relationship status. “I met Derek through my Ate Vina (Morales) long ago,” she said.

LAUGHTER IN AN ELECTION: Director Quark Henares, says Derek, Shaina, and Iza Calzado give the current election season a romantic twist in “My Candidate.”
The film is produced by Quantum Films, MJM Productions, Tuko Film Productions and Butchi Boy Films, producers of the award-winning and critically-acclaimed romantic-comedy films, “English Only, Please” and “#Walang Forever.”
Set during an election season, Quark says his film is as timely as today’s headlines.
Derek plays Congressman Sonny Suarez, who’s seeking a Senate seat. He may be a perfect candidate but he is painfully shy and a bit withdrawn.
Iza, meanwhile, is Vera Sanchez, Sonny’s ex-girlfriend and rival in his senatorial bid.
Shaina is Billie Pono, a life coach and communications trainer. Sonny’s campaign team hires her services to help polish their candidate’s public speaking skills.
“My Candidate’s” support cast is composed of Al Tantay, Nico Antonio, Ketchup Eusebio, Ricci Chan, Jun Sabayton, and Tirso Cruz.
“My Candidate” opens May 11 in theaters nationwide.
