Fil-American netter Ruben Gonzales and partner Darian King of Barbados started their doubles campaign at the Abierto Internacional Varonil Pachuca on a bright note after marching into the quarterfinals yesterday in Pachuca, Mexico.
The third-seeded Gonzales and King hung tough at crucial moments before besting British pair Luke Bambridge and Farris Gosea, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (8), in this $10,000 International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures tournament.
The win set up Gonzales and King their next meeting with Bolivian tandem Alejandro Mendoza and Federico Zeballos, who needed an extra set in beating American duo Brandon Anandan and Adam El Mihdawy.
