Global was both a winner and a loser on Thursday after beating JP Voltes, 4-0, to grab the solo lead in the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The UFL Cup champion shook off a scoreless tie at halftime to post its third win of the league season, only to see the good vibes disappear in a jiffy when players and officials found out their valuables were stolen by unknown robbers inside the dressing room.
Global owner Dan Palami said 11 players had their phones stolen while a team staff lost valuable items, including his passport.
The incident dampened what an impressive second half by Global, with Japanese midfielder Hikaru Minegishi netting a hat trick in the 59th, 62nd and 66th minutes.
Arthur Kouassi’s goal inside the second half stoppage time secured Global’s hold of the lead with nine points entering today’s 4 p.m. match with the unbeaten Loyola Meralco Sparks.
Loyola won its first two matches after stunning Ceres-La Salle, 3-2, in the league opener and beating Stallion, 3-1, last Sunday.
Ceres, on the other hand, resume its campaign on the domestic front expected to run roughshod over Nomads at 2 p.m. The Busmen are coming off a 5-0 win over Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi last Tuesday that gave them the top spot in Group F of the AFC Cup.
Agila and Pasargad meet in a rare morning game at 7:30 a.m. to open the tripleheader.
