Police have arrested a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group who is tagged in 27 counts of kidnapping during an operation in Taguig City.
Director Victor Deona, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said the operation stemmed from an intelligence report about a wanted ASG member hiding in Taguig City.
Follow-up monitoring identified the subject as 44-year old Sakur Mustakim who uses the aliases Junior Mustakim and Junio Asarani Sawadjaan.
Deona sa a background check revealed that Mustakim is a member of the ASG Urban Terrorist Group.
“He also carries a reward of R900,000,” said Deona.
Mustaki lm may have sought refuge in Taguig City over an intense military operations in Sulu and Basilan. Mustakim is a Sulu-bases ASG man.
Senior Supt. Ronald Lee, head of the CIDG-National Capital Region, said the operation.was carried out along Bayani Road in Taguig City.
Mustakim, he said, was left with no option but to yield when the cops announce his arrest using an arrest warrant issued by a Mindanao court.
Among the kidnapping incidents wherein Mustakim was reportedly involved are the kidnapping of six members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the Sipadan kidnapping which involves foreigners as victims.
Lee said the suspect was already turned over to te Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
