PO3 Reynante L. Basilio, investigator on case, identified the slain barangay official as Maximo Norte Binuya, 58, widower. His driver, Danilo Penson Ibay, 41, survived the attack.
Police said the Binuya and his driver were about to board their service vehicle, a Toyota Hi-Ace (ABJ 353) after attending his sibling’s wake in front of St. Francis Asissi Parish Church in Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija, at around 8:30 a.m. when one of the suspects approached them and shot them several times.
Binuya sustained a bullet wound in the head while Ibay suffered a gunshot wound in the back.
Basilio said the assailants immediately fled after the incident while the victims were rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital in Gapan City, where Binuya was declared dead on arrival.
The wounded driver was transferred to Gonzales General Hospital in San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, for further medical attention.
