Barangay Ginebra San Miguel center Greg Slaughter had surgery yesterday to remove bone spurs in his right ankle, an injury that will keep him out from activities related to basketball for four to six weeks.
Charlie Dy, the CEO of Virtual Playground that represents the 7-foot center, confirmed the surgery of the three-year veteran Slaughter performed by sports surgeon Dr. Raul Canlas.
“According to Dr. Canlas, Greg is out four to six weeks, after that he can return to practice,” Dy said in a telephone interview. “How fast he recovers depends on how he reacts to recovery program.”
Slaughter has developed bone spurs from an old injury he had in college while playing for Ateneo and previously with the University of the Visayas.
The injury forced Slaughter to beg off from continuing his participation with the Gilas Pilipinas national team training pool that is preparing for the Manila leg of the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (OQT) slated July 5 to 10.
