President Aquino yesterday assured that the government is doing its part to curb the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country but said he would need the help of the community, especially the parents, in ensuring that the youth stay away from illegal drugs.
In an exclusive interview with the Manila Bulletin, Aquino underscored the role of the parents in ensuring that the youth will not go astray.
This, following the recent tragic incident in a Pasay City outdoor cance concert earlier this month, which left five people dead, allegedly because of drug use.
“We’ll ask the parents first if they could maximize their assistance to government,” Aquino said.
“Parents would be most abled to determine who is abusing various substances,” he said.
“At the end of the day, the family and it’s only through concerted action between government and community that we can eliminate or substantially reduce this problem,” he added.
Aquino said the government has been very active in going after drug manufacturers and dealers.
Citing the report from the Philippine National Police (PNP), President Aquino said that from July 2010 to May 2016, the PNP alone conducted 87,187 anti- drug operations.
