MEGASTAR Sharon Cuneta has pointed out that there’s nothing personal among celebrity mentors when they battle one another for the contestants of the reality singing competition “The Voice Kids” on ABS-CBN.
“That’s part of the show. Lahat kami nag-uusap sa likod, ‘Uy ha, baka I’m offending you,’ then magsasabi naman kami, ‘No way.’ It’s part of the show ‘yung bickering namin. You know why? Kasi pinapakita naming sa mga bata na they are worth fighting for. Worth fighting over. So we battle one another for the children,” said Cuneta, who just joined the mentors’ table along with Broadway star Lea Salonga and rock icon Bamboo.
Cuneta, 50, said that she was also criticized by a basher for turning the mentor’s seat 360 degrees, according to a report on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” aired over ABS-CBN.
“Proud na proud ako d’yan. Sabi nung isang basher, nakwento lang sa akin, na may weight limit daw ’yung silya, eh, baka raw hindi umikot. I think hindi n’ya alam na matagal na akong naka-dyeta. So nung pag-upo ko, parang ni-redeem ako ni Lord dalawang beses ko inikot. Sabi ko, ‘Tingnan mo gumaan ako,’” she said.
Cuneta, who replaced actress-singer Sarah Geronimo on the mentors’ table, said that she really enjoys being on the show on weekends.
“Ang laki ng pasasalamat ko sa Panginoon dahil ang laki ng nerbyos ko nung sumali po ako rito. Sabi ko Diyos ko, sana makatulong ako wag makasama. I just really feel blessed to be here because it’s such a great show na capable s’yang magbigay ng maraming oportunidad sa mga batang nangangarap. Remember bata rin ako nag-umpisa. Kung walang nagbigay sa akin ng pagkaka-taon, wala siguro ako rito,” said the wife of newly-elected Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
Abunda said that he felt happy when he initially heard that Cuneta would be one of the mentors on the show. “Bagay, natural, genuine ‘yung compassion and the generosity of Sharon is for real.”
On weight issue of the actress-singer, Abunda commented: “Tungkol naman sa weight issue, para sa akin, ‘yung talent, ‘yung persona, ‘yung magnificence ni Sharon transcend weight problems. Pangalawa, sa bangayan between Lea Salonga and Sharon Cuneta, I love the creative tension. These are two powerful women. These are two talented and accomplished women. What’s gonna happen next is exciting.”
