Convicted drug lords have reportedly increased the bounty for incoming Philippine National Police chief Chief Supt. Ronald dela Rosa and President-elect Rodrigo Duterte after they failed to lure bounty hunters to do the job.
From P10 million, Dela Rosa said the bounty has ballooned to P50 million each for him and Duterte.
Dela Rosa said the increase in the bounty for them was the topic of the alleged second meeting of the suspected drug lords now languishing at the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City. “What they did not know is that one of those present in the meeting has been squealing what they had discussed to me,” said Dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa said he has his own list of drug lords across the country but would not reveal the names.
He said that he has his eyes on the convicted drug lords whom he said have been operating in the comfort of the security of the NBP. “There are a lot of them inside the NBP. They are enjoying the protection inside. They are safe because they are being guarded by the prison guards so how can the police arrest them?” said Dela Rosa.
Dela Rosa said he could not accept the fact that the convicted drug lords are still able to run their illegal drugs transactions inside the NBP. He said such reality only means the rampant corruption inside the NBP.
Dela Rosa said he would deal with the drug lords inside the NBP by taking them out horizontally.
He said that the fight against illegal drugs across the country would be easy if citizens and various groups would help the police.
Duterte had urged the public to join the fight against illegal drugs, asking them to arrest or kill drug lords they know to earn a R5-million reward. But sans the assurance that it would happen, Dela Rosa said he would pass the burden to the commanders whom he would appoint when he assumes the post next month. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
