Job fair, free MRT/LRT rides, and medical missions are just among the activities prepared by the government during the country’s commemoration of Independence Day on June 12.
Malacañang has announced details of the Independence Day celebration that will be led by President Aquino this weekend and encouraged the public to participate in the activities.
It will be President Aquino’s final June 12 celebration as he is about to step down from office at the end of the month.
“On Sunday, June 12, the Filipino people will be celebrating the 118th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine independence, with the theme ‘Kalayaan 2016: Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong,’” Coloma said.
Coloma said the President will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites at the Rizal Monument in Manila at 8 am. He is expected to deliver his final Independence Day address afterwards.
Simultaneous commemorative rites will also be held in key cities nationwide, including Kawit in Cavite, Malolos in Bulacan, Angeles in Pampanga, Davao City, Cebu City, and several other parts of Metro Manila.
From Rizal Park, the President will return to Malacañang to host the traditional Vin d’ Honneur for the diplomatic corps. Another public address of the President is expected in the event.
Coloma said National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in coordination with other government agencies, lined up commemorative activities leading up to the June 12 celebration, including the Balik-Tanaw cultural heritage tour at the Pasig River, cultural performances at the Paco Park and Rizal Park, simultaneous job fairs nationwide, trade fairs, and public exhibits.
Around 15,000 foreign and 7,000 local job opportunities will be offered by Department of Labor and Employment in a simultaneous nationwide job fair. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
