The submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) arrived in Puerto Princesa City for a scheduled port visit, the United States Embassy said yesterday.
Frank Cable, a ship that provides repairs and support to submarines, is commanded by Capt. Drew St. John and has more than 500 sailors and civilian mariners on board.
The port visit will allow Frank Cable sailors and Military Sealift Command mariners to enjoy some rest and relaxation and provide an excellent opportunity for them to experience the Philippine culture.
“These opportunities to enjoy liberty in a country with a close and historic relationship with the United States are important to the mission of the United States Navy and the USS Frank Cable,” said St. John.
For many in the crew, it is their first time to visit the Philippines. But for those with Filipino heritage, their port stop in Palawan serves a homecoming. (Elena L. Aben)
