FILIPINO-Italian actress Alessandra de Rossi has ventured into music for free after she was turned down by local record executives to produce her albums.
“Sabi nila, walang bibili ng music mo, lalo na dito sa Pilipinas hindi talaga yan ang market,” said De Rossi in an interview on “Tonight with Boy Abunda” on ABS-CBN.
“Kung walang bibili, ako na lang ang gagawa. Hindi ko na lang s’ya ibebenta at free download na lang s’ya. So nag-launch ako nung 2012 free ’yung album ko. Hindi ko ‘yun na-promote. Kung follower ka lang sa twitter malalaman mo,” the multi-awarded actress said.
De Rossi, 31, describes her music as electronic, chill out, and ambient.
“Nag-start ako ng 2006 at nilapit ko ‘yun sa producers. Sabi nila s’yempre kung gusto mong gumawa ng album, the usual kailangan may pop song or may dance track. Sabi ko sandali, hindi yan ang gusto kong music – electronic, chill out or ambient ang music ko. Bakit magkaka-dance track? Isa pa, hindi naman ako sumasayaw. Hindi rin ako mahilig sa dance music,” she said.
Despite rejections from record producers, De Rossi said that she went on to make music and has already produced two albums.
“Kami-kami lang ang nakakaalam nito. Sa sobrang tagal na nito, I realized na sobrang personal n’ya pala sa akin.
Hindi ko s’ya kayang pagkakitaan,” she added.
Her passion for music has resulted in a nomination in this year’s Urian Awards for best musical direction for the film “Water Lemon.”
“Ayokong manalo d’yan. I don’t know how to react. Basta ayoko talaga,” she laughed.
Proud of movies
De Rossi, who also received a best actress nomination for “Bambanti” (Scarecrow) in this year’s Urian, admitted that she is more proud of her movie projects than television.
She revealed that she had wanted to quit television in 2012 because of the poor scripts she was getting.
“Gustong-gusto ko nang mag-retire nun. Gusto ko na sabihing patayin na lang nila si Alessadra de Rossi. Hindi ko na type yung ginagawa ko sa TV. Sa movies proud ako sa sarili ko. Sa TV hindi talaga ako masaya. Hindi ko gusto ‘yung roles ko. Hindi ako na-inspire. Sabi ko, ano bang ginawa n’yo kay Alessandra de Rossi, ginawa n’yong monster,” she said.
“Wala s’yang ginawa to inspire people. Kasi lagi na lang akong nananapak, nang-aaway, pumapatay ng tao. Na guilty na ako nun. So naghanap na lang ako ng breather. Sabi ko kailangan kong huminga. Hindi kasi ako nagagalit. Sobrang chill ako sa bahay, walang sigawan and then all of a sudden three times a week sigawan. Sabi nila ayaw mo maging kontrabida, then mag-best friend ka muna ng bida,” she recalled.
When she recorded her song “Swept Away” also in 2012, De Rossi said that her outlook in life changed.
“Nung ni-record ko ’yung kantang yan, ang daming nabago. So sabi ko, alam ko na, tatanggapin ko lahat ng kontrabida roles na yan tapos lahat ng maiipon ko, magsu-shoot lang ako ng magsu-shoot ng video,” she said.
De Rossi also said that when she was younger in showbiz, she was not comfortable wearing gowns or putting make-up.
“Pero nung tumanda na ako, importante pala sya.”
Asked about her preparations when doing a film, De Rossi said: “Wala nga eh. Switch on, switch off lang talaga ako.
Pag sinabi mong action, action ’yun. Pag cut, cut ‘yun. Hindi ako mahilig mag prepare. Gusto kong maging organic as possible;
“’Yung script babasahin ko s’ya once sa bahay pag binigay mo sa akin. Tapos once uli babasahin ko bago mag-take.
Tapos blocking na, then take;
“Hind ako nagme-memorize. Pag nag prepare ka masyado, hindi s’ya nagiging organic. Nagkakaproblema minsan. Pero nagso-sorry ako. Wala namang perfect na artista lahat nagkakamali. May iba naman na kapag na realize mo ang proseso nila, ikaw ang sasalo sa kanila. Iibahin mo ’yung atake mo para maalala nila ’yung take nila,” she said.
