National U seeks to nail the first of two wins it needs to force a playoff for the last semifinal berth as it takes on ousted Baguio today even as University of the Philippines tries to stay in the race against also-ran Iriga in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs are raring to atone for their sorry five-set setback to the Air Force Jet Spikers last week where they squandered a 2-1 set lead and lost the next two sets, falling to 2-3 and on the verge of elimination.
But ranged against Baguio in the 6:30 p.m. main game, NU is expected to cruise past the winless squad and rejoin Laoag at fourth at 3-3 heading to their final matches.
NU and Laoag will have UP as their final elims opponent.
But the Lady Maroons are also trying to keep their slim hopes for a playoff alive. Despite toting a 1-3 card, the Diliman-based squad could still make it via backdoor with a sweep of its last three matches in the tournament sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by Mikasa and Accel.
But the Lady Maroons must hurdle the Lady Oragons in today’s 4 p.m. match then they will play the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday and the Laoag Power smashers in the final elims playdate on June 27.
