The readiness of Gilas Pilipinas for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament will be tested starting late last night with a series of exhibition series in Europe that came after staging a nine-day training camp in Greece.
Gilas is currently in Istanbul, Turkey where it will face the Turkish national team before meeting Italy, China and Canada in a four-team pocket tournament in Bologna starting Saturday.
The overseas games came after the Tab Baldwin-coached national cagers polished their skills and system at a training facility in Karpinisi, Greece.
Josh Reyes, a member of Baldwin’s coaching staff, said on his Instagram account that the players have been impressive with the amount of work they put in the Greek camp.
“Another training camp in the books,” said the son of former Gilas coach Chot Reyes through his Instagram account joshreyes8.
“There’s always a special sense of accomplishment and pride every time you go through this kind of grind for the country. Very much impressed by how the guys consistently battled and worked extremely hard in the past 9 days.”
