Former WWE heavyweight champion Roman Reigns has been suspended for violating the company’s talent wellness policy.
Reigns, who recently lost to Seth Rollins at WWE Money in the Bank, was meted a 30 day suspension which took effect June 21, 2016 per reports from WWE.com.
With the development, the supposed Triple Threat featuring Reigns, Rollins and recently crowned WWE champion Dean Ambrose has been placed in jeopardy. The three former “Shield” members were scheduled to face off at WWE Battleground which takes place on July 24, 2016.
Ambrose became the champion following his “Money in the Bank” cash-in moments after Rollins pinned Reigns.
With Reigns out for majority of the remaining weeks, the WWE could inadvertently make a change to the WWE Battleground main event and save the Triple Threat match up to the next pay-per-view, WWE SummerSlam.
Reigns issued a statement following his suspension via Twitter.
I apologize to my family, friends and fans for my mistake in violating WWE’s wellness policy. No excuses. I own it.
