Twenty five suspected illegal drug personalities were killed in just five days in police operations in Luzon and the Visayas.
Fifty eight drug suspects have been killed after Davao City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte won the presidential election.
Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, spokesman of the Philippine National Police, said they expect all these deaths to be explained properly.
Mayor said that there is always an investigation protocol in every operation that would lead to the death of any suspect. “Part of the investigation is to determine whether the circumstance behind the operation and the circumstances why the suspects were killed,” said Mayor.
Mayor said there are units investigating police operations such as the Internal Affairs Service that is tasked to determine any wrongdoings of policemen. “This is to avoid the negative perception and at the same time, for us to know the truth about the involvement policemen (on executing drug suspects). And if they are involved, then they deserve to be removed from the service,” said Mayor.
The 25 drug suspects were killed from June 16 to June 20 in various police operations in Luzon and the Visayas.
Region 4-A had the most number with 20 dead illegal drug suspects. Two were reported in Central Luzon, two in Central Visayas, and one in Northern Mindanao.
From May 10 to June 15 this year, 29 suspected illegal drug personalities were killed, most of them in Central Luzon and Region 4-A or Calabarzon. Only 39 suspected illegal drug personalities were killed from January to May 9 this year. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
