Returning Philippine Sports Commission chairman Butch Ramirez paid tribute Sunday to Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas regional director Regino ‘Boy’ Cua at the Cosmopolitan Davao Funeral Homes, calling the late sportsman “the center of inspiration to many.”
According Sun.Star Davao, Ramirez, who first served as PSC head during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo from 2005 to 2009, bared that “I was one of the recipients of his generosity.”
Cua succumbed to cardiac arrest last Monday.
“My good friend lived a legacy to live by. I hope I could be an Edgar Allan Poe or Mark Twain to describe the beauty of this guy. While he was not perfect he was so generous. He was also compassionate to the destitute,” Ramirez eulogized.
On many occasions, Cua had bankrolled Davao’s youth basketball teams to allow them to compete in Manila.
