Cignal and Air Force dismantled their respective foes today to move a win away from arranging a championship showdown in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The HD Spikers recovered just in time in besting Sta. Elena Spikers, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 26-24, even as the Jet Spikers dominated Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM), 22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 25-23, in their respective best-of-three semifinal affairs.
Cignal’s victory was also its sixth straight since the eliminations, while duplicating its straight-set triumph over the same foe in their first meeting just three days back.
Raymark Woo starred for the HD Spikers with 22 points built on 18 kills, three blocks and once ace, including a crosscourt hit that sealed the triumph.
“Inunti-unti kami nung kabila nung last set. At the same time, nagpahing din yung team ko. Nawalan kami ng receive at service, pero naka-adjust naman kami noong huli,” said Cignal Coach Macky Cariño.
Air Force, meanwhile, leaned on Fauzi Ismail and Rodolfo Labrador, who came up with 18 and 14 points, respectively, as the Jet Spikers took advantage of IEM’s erratic plays in the one and a half hour match.
Game 2 of their respective semis matches will be on Saturday on the same venue.
