ZAMBOANGA CITY – A jobless man was shot dead by police officers after he took his family hostage and killed his wife in front of their three children inside their house in Molave, Zamboanga del Zur, Tuesday morning.
Based on the report of Molave Municipal Police Station, the cops were forced to shoot twhe hostage-taker, Eddie Reyes, 35, after he shot his wife dead with a .45-caliber pistol during the hostage drama.
Probers said Reyes arrived at their residence at about 7 a.m., Tuesday, and suddenly grabbed his wife and three children for unknown reason.
Police said aside from a .45-caliber pistol, Reyes was also holding a hand grenade when he held his family hostage inside their house.
Police operatives rushed to the site and negotiated with Reyes for the release of his wife and children.
Instead of releasing his wife, Reyes shot her and attempted to pull the pin of the hand grenade.
Seeing his move, policemen shot Reyes, killing him.
Police investigators said they have yet to establish the reason why he held his own family hostage. (NONOY E. LACSON)
