Two male police officers who got engaged recently in London became the subject of homophobic abuse on Twitter. Some comments were even “grossly offensive.”
One officer got down on one knee and proposed. The photo was captured on camera and immediately went viral. The shot was liked by more than 10,000 Twitter users across the globe. While others congratulated the couple, the proposal received negative feedback from the social media.
“Homosexuality is a sin, it is not to be praised,” read one comment. “True love doesn’t delight in evil.” Some comments even reminded the couple of the recent shooting in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where more than fifty people died, most of them members of the LGBT community. Here in Manila, such act will not merit positive, congratulatory remarks as the Philippines is strongly a Catholic country. (RG)
