Cignal and Air Force downed their respective rivals yesterday to forge a championship duel in the Spikers’ Turf Season 2 Open Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Both the HD Spikers and the Jet Spikers swept their respective best-of-three semifinal showdowns, with Cignal beating Sta. Elena, 25-23, 25-16, 25-17, and Air Force besting former champion Instituto Estetico Manila (IEM), 25-15, 25-21, 34-32.
The HD Spikers’ Game 2 victory also preserved their immaculate record since the eliminations as they claimed their seventh straight win.
The Jet Spikers, meanwhile, had to go through the eye of the needle in the third set to avoid a do-or-die match.
Air Force saw its 24-21 lead vanish as IEM refused to go down easily. But the Jet Spikers kept their composure with Fauzi Ismail’s service ace and an off-the-block spike from Howard Mojica sealing the win.
Mojica led Air Force with 15 points, 12 coming from kills, while Jeff Malabanan and Reyson Fuentes added 12 points, respectively.
Rodolfo Labrador and Ismail chipped in 11 points apiece.
