Blackwater’s campaign in the PBA Governors’ Cup suffered a major blow before the season-ending conference could start.
Forward Gilbert Bulawan was declared dead on arrival at the Capitol Medical Center due to a massive heart attack during yesterday’s practice at the SGS gym on Araneta Avenue, Quezon City.
The former San Sebastian College star would have turned 30 on Aug. 25.
Though tough and scrappy on the playing court, the 6-foot-4 Bulawan was a jolly person that’s why when he collapsed in the arms of Reil Cervantes with a little over three minutes left in their practice session, Blackwater owner Dioceldo Sy thought he was just fooling around.
But when Bulawan turned pale, Sy knew something was wrong.
“I jumped immediately to the court because I knew something was wrong. Our physical therapist applied mouth-to-mouth resuscitation but he was not responding,” said Sy. (Rey Lachica and Waylon Galvez)
