SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – Twenty-seven crates of “galunggong” allegedly caught through illegal dynamite fishing were seized yesterday near the city’s wet auxiliary market.
The catch weighed 891 kilos and has a market value of P77,000. They were found inside a closed can which came from Salomague, Ilocos Sur, according to examiner Dolores Gurtiza.
Aside from the seizure, Florycel Obeña, the city’s aqua culturist, said the owner of the cargo will be slapped with a P5,000 fine.
However, the owner of the truck named, Amelia Fish Dealer, is not liable for the violation, according to Obeña, because it was only rented by the fish supply owner.
The seized cargo will be distributed to charitable institutions, such as the city jail and social and medical establishments, it was learned.
