Vice President Ma. Leonor “Leni” G. Robredo has buckled down to work, giving attention to top five priority areas during her six-year term.
In her speech at Tapatan sa Aristocrat in Manila yesterday, she said these are hunger and food security, universal health care, rural development education, and people empowerment.
“There are problems that we cannot seem to shake off, poverty levels, job growth, and inclusivity are the biggest wants that we need to fix, not tomorrow, but now,” she said.
While Robredo will not hold a concurrent Cabinet post unlike previous vice presidents, Leni said she chose the best path, in the meantime, to work with the private sector and forge partnerships.
The former Camarines Sur representative cited that the doors of her office are open for possible collaborations and synergies in order to maximize both the resources of the government and private sector.
“We are inviting all groups of individuals who have the passion in these areas to come to office and partner with us… We need to discuss the best way to tackle our trenchant problems. Collaboration is our best resource right now,” she said.
Under the administration of former President Aquino, the Philippines posted a trend gross domestic product growth rate and experienced a vibrant economy.
But Robredo emphasized that a higher gross domestic national income is useless when “people are not able to assess that income.”
“Remember the whole point of public service. We live to give so that those who are blessed will have more. Moving forward will require a commitment to keep our macro at economic number healthy. As well as the issues of poverty, inclusivity at the same time,” the Vice President said. (Raymund F. Antonio)
