The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) yesterday filed illegal drugs complaints before the Department of Justice (DoJ) against three Taiwanese who were arrested in separate raids in Parañaque and Las Piñas that yielded P1.55 billion worth of illegal drugs and raw materials.
Shih-Ming Tsai, Kuo-Chan Cheng and Chun-Ming Lin were brought before Assistant State Prosecutor Maryjan Sytat for inquest proceedings over charges of violating Republic Act (RA) 9016, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Both Tsai and Cheng were charged for violating Section 8 (manufacture of dangerous drugs and/or controlled precursors and essential chemicals), Section 10 (manufacture or delivery of equipment, instrument, apparatus and other paraphernalia) and Section 11 (possession) of RA 9016.
While, Lin has been charged with violating Section 11 (possession) in relation to Section 26(b) (conspiracy) of RA 9016.
The DoJ prosecutor instructed PDEA to submit today (Friday) results of the examinations conducted on the seized illegal drugs.
Tsai and Cheng were arrested at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday during a raid on a house inside Philam Life Village in Barangay Pamplona 2, Las Piñas City, by joint operatives of the PDEA and police who were armed with a warrant issued by Quezon City Executive Judge Fernando Sagun of Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 78.
Operatives seized around P1.5 billion worth of items including 50 kilos of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu); 298 kilos of liquid shabu; and assorted laboratory equipment.
Lin was apprehended an hour later at Unit 10 Executive Village Society, BF Homes, Parañaque City. Authorities were able to confiscated from Lin 10 packs of shabu with an estimated value of R5 million and 24 balikbayan boxes of ephedrine powder. (Jeffrey G. Damicog)
