DAVAO CITY – The city government here has beefed up security along the city’s entry and exit points after City Hall yesterday revealed that terrorist group ISIS has targeted the hometown of President Duterte.
Acting Mayor Paolo Z. Duterte said that the military and police have been informed of the report.
The acting mayor also ordered the intensification of intelligence gathering to avert possible attacks from the international terror group.
He said he has already some information about the whereabouts of the group but refused to give specific details.
The information, he said, must be validated first.
“We are intensifying the gathering of information. We cannot disclose details or confirm anything as of yet,” he said.
Duterte said that he has already coordinated with the city’s anti-terrorism group, Task Force Davao, the Davao City Police Office, and the Eastern Mindanao Command of the military to get more information about the said threat.
The main entry points of Davao City are manned by personnel from the TF Davao, who ask passengers of public transport to go out of their vehicles while the personnel scan the vehicles using K9 units.
Passengers are also frisked randomly.
As of press time, the United States Department of State has not yet issued a travel warning about Davao City, except for a travel advisory against traveling in another part of Mindanao, in the Sulu Archipelago in a travel warning dated April 21, 2016. (YAS OCAMPO)
