‘GOING INT’L’ – A reader notes that showbiz lingo (not necessarily gay) is “going international.”
That is foreign celebrities, especially Hollywood stars, have penetrated—if that’s really the right word – the entertainment scene.
Consider:
Sharon Stone, meaning “shabu.” Well, all should avoid Sharon Stone, as another Stone (read PNP chief Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa) is hard and unforgiving on drug pushers and users. That’s the order of President Digong Duterte.
By the way, should Bato’s life is made into a movie, his choice to play himself is either Cesar Montano or Robin Padilla. He watched “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, “but he feels Coco Martin is too handsome to play his part on the big screen.”
Lady Gaga-rin, meaning obvious. There are so many of them in showbiz, wasting golden opportunities given to them.
Think of those sex symbols and comedians virtually reduced to begging. Stupid or foolish, indeed.
Katy Jurado – Think “kati” as in flirt. A little of Katy Jurado doesn’t do anyone harm.
Mahalia Jackson, the “giveaway” word being “mahal” (expensive). The likes of Sharon Cuneta, Kris Aquino, Heart Evangelista, Marian Rivera, Regine Velasquez are said to be totting Mahalia Jackson bags (Hermes, Chanel, LV, Prada, and some such signature brands).
It is said that Regine gifted a teary-eyed Snooky Serna an LV.
How about Ate Rita (as in Hollywood goddess of yore Rita Hayworth), meaning arthritis? Or Ate Aida, AIDS, (as in the opera of unrequited love)?
Again, it must be said again and again. Showbiz lingo is more rhyme than reason.

MADAME CURIE – The name means “kuripot” (tightwad) simply because Curie rhymes with you know what. Nothing to do with Madame Curie, winner of 2 nobels—for chemistry and physics.
The local equivalent of Madame Curie is Tita Cory or Ate Kuring.
