The days of traffic violators especially those using the “DU30” commemorative car plates are numbered.
Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Martin Andanar warned on Sunday about an imminent crackdown on abusive car owners, saying the government does not condone the violation of the country’s transportation and traffic laws.
Andanar, speaking on government radio, has even urged the public to report car owners abusing the commemorative plates of President Duterte to his office.
“The President has always been for equality, fairness and justice,” Andanar said.
“Now kung meron po kayong mga reports o nakikitang mga sasakyan na may mga Duterte plates na abusado, kung pwede po ipadala niyo po sa amin sa Presidential Communications Office and I will make sure that the President will find out,” he added.
The Land Transportation Office earlier cautioned motorists against putting the DU30 plates over the official license plates issued by the agency. Such practice of replacing LTO plates with commemorative plates is reportedly illegal.
The “DU30” plates proliferated during the campaign period in support of the presidential bid of the Davao City mayors. LTO officials have repeatedly appealed to car owners to observe the law amid complaints of abuses and other traffic violations. (Genalyn D. Kabiling)
