Twenty policemen across the country tested positive in the confirmatory drug test as the Philippine National Police (PNP) targets to finish drug testing on all the 180,000 uniformed and civilian personnel of the organization in six months.
Chief Supt. Emmanuel Aranas, head of the PNP Crime Laboratory, said Mindanao has the highest number of policemen who tested positive for drug use with nine, followed by Visayas with six, and five others are assigned in Luzon.
“As of 10 a.m. today (Tuesday), the samples for 16 other policemen are being subjected to confirmatory test,” Aranas told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
Asked of the probability that the 16 policemen would be cleared, Aranas said it would be unlikely since the 20 policemen who were confirmed to have been positive for drugs are the very same number who failed the initial drug test using urine samples.
All of those who tested positive, according to Aranas, are for shabu use. (Aaron B. Recuenco)
