Defending champion San Beda and Mapua routed their respective rivals yesterday to keep their share of the lead in NCAA basketball at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Red Lions pummeled the Emilio Aguinaldo College (EAC) Generals, 91-76, after the Cardinals dumped the Lyceum Pirates, 75-64.
The win was San Beda and Mapua’s third straight in as many games, one game ahead of Arellano University (2-0). It was also the Red Lions’ 15th straight victory against the General since 2009.
Radge Tongco, who stepped up for injured starting pointguard Roldan Sara, made an explosion with 22 points in only 17 minutes of action as the Red Lions quickly dominated the match despite the Generals’ persistent attempts.
Leading 40-34 at halftime, San Beda stepped on the gas and scattered 31 points in the third period for a 71-53 cushion heading into the final quarter.
