The rapid increase of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases in the country has alarmed Manila, prompting the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) to move to contain the spread of deadly virus in the city at all costs.
Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada and CPOC have convened to discuss measures that will contain the spread of HIV which experts say has reached epidemic level, infecting 4,611 Filipinos from January to July 2015 alone.
“In every hour, one Filipino is getting infected by HIV, or 22 to 27 a day,” Estrada said, citing recent government statistics.
“If we don’t act now as fast as we can, we might not be able to contain it in the near future,” he added.
