Games Tuesday
Ynares Sports Arena, Pasig
4 p.m. – Tanduay vs Topstar ZC Mindanao
6 p.m. – Blustar Detergent vs Racal
Defending champion CaféFrance drew big games from Rod Ebondo and Paul Zamar to crush Blustar Detergent, 90-61, for its sixth win in seven matches yesterday in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Ebondo and Zamar both scored 20 points, with the former adding 20 rebounds and the latter dishing out six assists as the Bakers ripped the Dragons late in the second quarter on their way to a lopsided victory.
CaféFrance also got a big lift from veteran Jopher Custodio, who had 14 points and four rebounds in his first game with the team.
“We focused on our transition defense, controlling the boards, and attacking the middle. The game plan was very effective and I’m happy that everybody contributed,” said CaféFrance coach Egay Macaraya.
The Bakers forged a momentary tie for the lead with the Phoenix Accelerators, who were playing the AMA Online Education Titans at presstime.
A 16-0 run conspired by Ebondo and Zamar just before the break gave the Bakers a 42-28 lead at halftime, before controlling the game the rest of the way.
Ebondo’s rebounding output enabled CaféFrance to dominate the glass, 61-39.
Juami Tiongson finished with 17 points, five rebounds and three assists for the Malaysian-flavored Blustar, which dropped to 1-7.
Tian Yuan Kuek and Kuee Ma Cheek combined for 22 points.
In the second game, the Phoenix Accelerators drubbed AMA Online Education, 109-70.
Phoenix raced to a 20-4 lead and never looked back.
