A man wanted for illegal drug charges was killed before he could fire shots at cops in Quezon City early yesterday morning.
Police said a certain Sherwin Sabuyas alias “Hapon,” about 30-35 years old, died on arrival at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center after he was shot by anti-illegal drugs operatives of Cubao Police Station (PS-7) during a buy-bust operation on Cambridge St., Barangay E. Rodriguez, Cubao around 2:30 a.m.
Sabuyas, police said, was listed No. 7 in the Top 20 drug personalities in Cubao area, and had been hunted by PS-7 for drug charges.
Police launched an entrapment operation after an informant confirmed that he was able to purchase a sachet of shabu from the suspect last July 19.
PO1 Sammy Putan was tapped to transact with Sabuyas for the drug sting as six other policemen were on standby.
However, even before the transaction started, the suspect sensed the buy-bust and suddenly drew a .45-caliber pistol to shoot Putan.
Police said that this prompted Putan to draw his service firearm and shoot the suspect. The other cops also fired shots at Sabuyas.
Crime scene investigators recovered Sabuyas’ gun loaded with five bullets, spent shells and ive sachets of suspected shabu.
At the hospital, doctors found in the pocked of Sabuyas’ pants a case of chewing gum containing 10 small sachets of suspected shabu.
The body of the slain suspect remained at the hospital morgue as of yesterday afternoon. (Vanne Elaine P. Terrazola)
