Foton-Pilipinas formally launched its 18-player training pool that will represent the country in the 2016 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship that will take place on Sept. 3 to 11 at the Alonte Sports Center in Biñan, Laguna.
Towering Jaja Santiago, Angeli Araneta, Maika Ortiz and Rhea Dimaculangan, members of the Foton team that won last year’s Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix title, banners the pool which will be trimmed down to 14 local players and two imports for the final cut on Aug. 17.
Also on the list are Foton players Patty Orendain, Ivy Perez, Kara Acevedo, Bia General, as well as explosive rookies Cherry Rondina, EJ Laure and Carol Cerveza.
Local reinforcements Aby Maraño of F2 Logistics, Rachel Anne Daquis and Jovelyn Gonzaga of RC Cola-Army, and Petron’s Jen Reyes are also in the list, as well as imports Lyndsay Stalzer, last year’s Grand Prix MVP, and Ariel Usher complete the squad.
“We are excited and honored by being chosen to play here. We understand the big responsibility given to us, and we accept that challenge,” said team manager Alvin Lu, whose team’s Grand Prix title earned them a berth in this prestigious tournament.
